Holy Heart High School
Electronics Policy (2007)
Rationale
The use of personal electronic devices such as cell phones, digital cameras,
mp3 players, iPods, and PDA’s in the classroom has increased tremendously
over the past couple of years. Operation of such devices in the classroom
have been identified as causing :
students to be inattentive and not on task with their schoolwork;
a distraction to both the teacher and other students, disrupting the
teaching –learning environment;
potential invasion of privacy (through pictures and video clips);
academic dishonesty through text messaging
unnecessary noise pollution / potential health issues.
Responsibilities
Electronic devices such as cell phones, digital cameras, mp3 players, iPods,
and PDA’s are NOT to be seen or heard while students are in class. This
includes accessories such as headphones/headsets. Electronic devices should
be stored in lockers, knapsacks, or purses and be turned OFF.
Consequences
Failure to comply with the above will result in the following consequences :
Student will be asked by the teacher to take the
device to the main office. The device will be held for the remainder of the
day by Administration and retrieved after school by the student.
Subsequent infractions will require
the student to take the device to the office and will require a parent to
come to the school to pick up the device. Administration will contact the
parent. |
